TLC / Black Car & Livery
Commercial auto coverage for TLC-licensed vehicles — black cars, car service & livery, boro (green) taxis and luxury limousines. New plates or renewals, we quote the specialist for-hire markets and handle the paperwork end to end.
- Binder & FH-1 certificate issued and filed
- New TC (“diamond”) plate paperwork & renewals
- Base changes, vehicle swaps, added drivers
- We work with New York’s for-hire specialists — we’re a listed American Transit broker, and we place with other TLC markets too
Personal Auto
New York private-passenger coverage — liability, comprehensive and collision. New license? Points on the record? A teen driver? We shop it instead of letting one carrier decide.
Homeowners & Renters
Brooklyn homes, condos, co-ops and rentals — protection for the place your family comes home to, placed with carriers that actually write in New York City.
Something else?
Landlord policies, small business coverage, umbrella liability — as brokers we can usually find a market. Ask. If we can’t place it, we’ll tell you straight and point you to someone who can.
Ask us — (718) 836-0500If you drive for a living, insurance isn’t paperwork. It’s your livelihood.

A storefront on 4th Avenue. Not a call center.
Since 2013, drivers and families from Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Sunset Park have walked through the same door and talked to the same people. That’s the whole model.
Independent, by design
We’re a brokerage, not an insurance company’s sales desk. We compare the markets that fit your risk and tell you what we’d pick for our own family.
The TLC niche is our home turf
Our people have spent more than 20 years in New York’s taxi & limousine industry. FH-1s, TC plates, base letters, lapse rescues — the paperwork that scares new drivers is our Tuesday morning.
Rooted in the neighborhood
Voted a “Neighborhood Favorite” by neighbors on Nextdoor, serving Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Sunset Park East. Our clients are the people we see on 4th Avenue every day.
Renewals that don’t sneak up on you
We track your dates and call you first — because a lapse costs a working driver far more than a premium does.
Asked across this desk, daily.
What insurance do I need to drive a TLC vehicle?
Most TLC-licensed vehicles need commercial auto coverage with $100,000/$300,000 bodily-injury liability, $10,000 property damage, uninsured motorist protection and New York no-fault (PIP) — currently $100,000 per person under TLC rules. The exact requirement follows your vehicle class and base — we confirm it before you bind, so there are no surprises at inspection.
What is an FH-1 certificate?
The FH-1 is New York’s for-hire insurance certificate — the DMV’s proof that your vehicle carries the required coverage. TLC expects it on file and current. When you bind through us, we issue and file it as part of the job, not as an extra.
My coverage lapsed. How bad is it?
Serious — a lapse can suspend your registration and park your TC plates for weeks, which for a working driver means lost income. Call us the moment you get a cancellation or non-renewal notice; caught early, most lapses can be prevented or fixed quickly.
I’m a brand-new TLC driver. Where do I start?
Get your TLC driver license first, then your base affiliation letter. Then come to us: we quote the markets, issue your binder and FH-1, and hand you what you need for TLC and DMV plate registration. TLC rules change often — call us and we’ll walk you through the current path.
Do you only work with American Transit?
No. We’re a listed broker in American Transit’s directory, and we also place coverage with other New York for-hire specialist markets. As independent brokers, our job is to find the market that fits your vehicle, your base and your budget.
Can you handle my personal car and my home too?
Yes — that’s the point of having one broker. Personal auto, homeowners, condo, co-op and renters. One office that knows your whole picture usually finds gaps (and savings) that five separate 800-numbers never will.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Call (718) 836-0500, send the quote form below, or walk into 9128 4th Avenue, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM. Bring your documents and we’ll get to work.
